Student & Employee Assistance Counseling Services Norwalk Schools partners with Iowa Health to offer professional counseling services for students and employees of the school district.  The Employee and Student Assistance Program (EAP/SAP) services through the Iowa Health – Des Moines Employee Assistance Program are available to any employee or student of the Norwalk school district. We primarily provide assessment and short-term counseling for a variety of issues.  Assessments and recommendations are made according to each person’s needs.  For many people, the EAP/SAP can meet their needs with short-term counseling. In that case, the counselor who does the assessment will likely also conduct the sessions. Under our agreement there is no predetermined number of sessions though we primarily provide short-term services. The number of sessions is decided on a case-by-case basis. If the person’s needs require more specialized or longer term care the counselor will refer outside of the EAP/SAP. In this case, the counselor who did the assessment would make recommendations and help facilitate the referral. Once a referral is made, those services are no longer covered under the EAP/SAP benefit.  Instead they are covered under the individual’s health insurance and copayment. The Iowa Health – Des Moines EAP provides a location for employees and students to be seen for counseling within the district. Employees and students can also be seen at our main office which is located at Penn Medical Place, 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue Suite 305, Des Moines Iowa 50316 (just east of Iowa Lutheran Hospital).  Please feel free to contact the office at 263-4004 for more information or to schedule an appointment. Here also is a link to access the Iowa Health – Des Moines Employee Assistance Program webpage for further information We look forward once again to partnering with the Norwalk school district in the year ahead.  Iowa Health, Des Moines, Iowa
